
Wutai Mountain ( or Wutaishan,literally "Five Plateau Mountain") is located in Shanxi Province of Northern China. Wutai Mountain covers 2,837 square meters (1,095.4 square miles), is one of the Four Sacred Mountains in Chinese Buddhism. Wutai Mountain is a famous scenic spot under national protection. Today, most of the temples are still in good condition. 360 temples were built here dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) but now only 47 of them exist. Over the years, incalculable numbers of pilgrims and visitors have come here. In 2009 Wutai Mountain was listed as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
